Position: Oceanographer
Research Interests: Sabine’s research focuses on understanding the global carbon cycle. In particular, his work centers around interpreting inorganic carbon measurements in both the open and coastal oceans. This includes understanding the air-sea exchange of CO2 at the ocean surface, examining the basin-scale distributions of both natural and anthropogenic carbon in the ocean’s interior, understanding ocean acidification, examining the role of coastal oceans in the global carbon cycle, understanding multiple tracer relationships (e.g. anthropogenic CO2 and CFCs), evaluating ocean carbon cycle GCMs with data-based global carbon distributions, and examining carbonate and organic matter remineralization within the oceans.
