Mecking Presents Recent Ocean Acidification Work on Capitol Hill

Sabine Mecking (UW) was invited to visit D.C. to present her and others' GRL paper on "Direct observations of basin-wide acidification of the North Pacific Ocean" (VOL. 37, L02601, doi:10.1029/2009GL040999, 2010).

She had the opportunity to visit several Washington State senate and congressional offices (Murray, Cantwell, Smith, Hastings, Baird, Larsen, Inslee, Dicks), talk to staffers, and meet some of the congressmen in person (Inslee, Baird, and Smith). Sabine felt that most Washington State representatives appeared well aware (and alarmed) of ocean acidification and its potential impacts on marine life.
