Many scientists from glaciology, atmospheric chemistry and isotope geochemistry studies at the University of Washington, including Eric Steig and Becky Alexander, are involved in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Divide Ice Core Project, which just recently reached its goal this year of drilling 3,330 meters into the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

This record event was also reported on in UW Today. See it here. For more information on the project, visit the UW Atmospheric Science department's WAIS project information page or see the official WAIS project homepage.
