Overview: Human evolution discounts the future in preference for short term gratification-- and survival. Our political and policy making systems are even more near -term focused, with two and four year election cycles and the influence of special interest funders dominating the landscape to the detriment of established facts (or at least those inconvenient to desired outcomes). This session will explore some of the impacts, exceptions, and opportunities to better align science with policymaking.
