Title: Evaluation of clouds and radiation in the Canadian Atmospheric Global Climate Model (CanAM4)

Abstract:
Recently the fourth generation of the Canadian Atmospheric Global Climate Model (CanAM4) was developed at the Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma). As part of its development, several changes were made to the physical parameterizations, especially to those related to clouds and radiative transfer, which I will describe briefly. To improve the evaluation of cloud and radiative transfer simulated by CanAM4 new diagnostic fields and methods were applied to the model, mainly making use of satellite-based observations. Some of these initial evaluations of CanAM4 will be shown.
