Title: "Drawing Down CO2 by 2030 to Back Out of the Danger Zone for Abrupt Climate Shifts"
Dr. Calvin will give a presentation exploring
the possibility of applying ocean pumps to lift nutrients while sinking
organic carbon at depth in an effort to remove excess atmospheric CO₂. The
process suggested in this seminar would sink the entire wind-mixed layer of
Dissolved Inorganic Carbon, thereby removing it from the surface and
delaying the production of CO₂ for centuries or millenia and transferring
its production to a greater depth. The title of Dr. Calvin's talk tomorrow
is "Drawing Down CO2 by 2030 to Back Out of the Danger Zone for Abrupt
Climate Shifts".
